Thank you for considering Lyon County as your choice for future employment. The Lyon County Civil
Service Commission will be accepting applications for the Entrance Examination for Lyon County
Deputy Sheriff’s List starting December 12, 2024. To be considered, completed applications must be
received by the Civil Service Commission Personnel Director at the following address:

Applications may also be returned in person to the Auditor’s Office in the Lyon County Courthouse
located at 206 S. 2nd Ave., Rock Rapids, IA. Any applications returned to the Sheriff’s Office, or
any other County Office may be disqualified. Completed applications must be received no later
than 4:30pm on January 16, 2025.
Once a completed application is received, you will receive additional information regarding the
mandatory testing. This information will be sent via email. The testing will be held on Wednesday,
January 22, 2025. The written test will be administered at the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office at 410 S.
Boone St., Rock Rapids, IA beginning at 9:00am. The physical fitness testing will be administered
after the written test at the Dordt University Recreation Center in Sioux Center, IA. A second testing
date may be scheduled if needed, but we strongly encourage all applicants to plan for January 22,
2025.
Application packages may be obtained from the Lyon County Auditor at the Lyon County
Courthouse or online at https://lyoncounty.iowa.gov/employment/. You will also need to include
information not included in the application. These are as follows: copy of your birth certificate, copy
of your driver’s license, copy of your high school diploma or GED, college/university transcripts (if
applicable), and military discharge paperwork (if applicable).
