The Lyon County Civil Service Commission will be accepting applications for the Entrance Examination for Lyon County Deputy Sheriff’s List.

To be considered for either opportunity, completed applications must be received by mail or in-person at the following address:

Applications will be accepted until openings are filled. Entrance Examination testing dates will be scheduled as needed. Our first Entrance Examination testing will be administered as follows:

Date: May 20, 2025

Time: 8:30 AM

Location: Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, 410 S. Boone St., Rock Rapids, IA 51246

The testing will start with the written test followed by the fitness testing.

To be eligible for the Entrance Examination testing on May 20, 2025, your application must be received by 4:30 PM on May 9, 2025.  If your application is received after this date, you will be notified via email of an upcoming test date.

Application packages may be obtained from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office or online at https://lyoncounty.iowa.gov/sheriff/job_openings/. In addition to the application, please submit a copy of your birth certificate, copy of your driver’s license, college/university transcripts (if applicable), and military discharge paperwork (if applicable).
