Jailer (Full-Time and Part-Time)
Status: Full-Time and Part-Time
Location: Rock Rapids, Iowa
Pay: Up to $31.42/hour

Position Summary: Under general supervision of the Jail Administrator, performs general correction duties which serve in accomplishing the mission of the jail and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office to protect life, property, and preserve order within our communities. Jailers are required to work days, evenings, and overnight shifts including weekends and holidays.
Essential Functions:
- Be part of and contribute to the mission of the team
- Demonstrate sound leadership and rational judgement
- Work independently of direct supervision
- Possess the ability to communicate well and de-escalate situations
- Protect the safety of team members, visitors, and individuals incarcerated within the jail
Beneficial Experience: Although not required, previous experience or education in the criminal justice or law enforcement field would be beneficial.
Conditions of Employment:
- Eligible for employment in the United States of America
- Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license
- Pass a physical examination and drug test
- Pass a background investigation
- Complete required training
