Naturalist - Permanent
Permanent, full-time position This individual must be dependable, motivated, positive thinking, and have good team working skills to achieve the goals of the Lyon County Conservation Board. Develop, promote, and conduct interpretive and educational programs, for various groups to connect people to nature and grow our environmental education program. This position includes writing articles, press releases, communicating effectively with staff and the general public, maintaining Nature Center displays and live animal exhibits, and record keeping. Must have the ability to work in a physically demanding environment in all types of weather doing basic outdoor skills such as camping, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, hiking, archery and more. Basic knowledge of social media platforms is needed. Work may include acting as a leader in with seasonal workers or volunteers assigned to assist in various projects or tasks. Perform various other duties within the scope of responsibility and authority under the supervision of the Director. These responsibilities are not all encompassing. 40 hours/weekly including some weekend and evening hours.
Qualifications: Minimum 2-year Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university in education, natural science, ecology, outdoor recreation, biology or other related natural resources fields. Valid driver’s license and insurable under county insurance, CPR/first aid/AED certification or the ability to obtain.
Salary: $42,000 - $62,000 with uniform allowance, and standard county benefits, including IPERS.
