Snowmobile and off-highway vehicle registrations expire at year's end

Off-highway vehicle owners can now renew their registrations for all-terrain vehicles (ATV's), off-road utility vehicles(ORV's), off-road motorcycles(ORM) and snowmobiles. The registration window opened Sept.1 and closes December 31, 2025, visit any County Recorder's Office, or go to the Iowa DNR's online licensing site: gooutdoorsiowa.com. Allow 5-10 business days for online registrations to arrive in the mail.

All nonresident user permits for snowmobiles and OHVs also expire Dec. 31. There is no late penalty for a permit purchased after Jan. 1, as they are issued for a calendar year. User permits are required for nonresident machines used on public land or ice. Nonresident off road vehicles registered in their home state must display a user permit. Residents operating an off-highway vehicle or snowmobile require a current registration but do not need a user permit.
