General Assistance
General Assistance is an ordinance enacted by the Lyon County Board of Supervisors by authority of the Code and Constitution of Iowa to assist residents of the county who, because of their circumstances need immediate financial assistance.

Application approval is required to receive benefits. Payments are made directly to landlords and/or service providers. No cash benefits are available. Application decisions are guaranteed within 30 days or less of applying.
Eligibility Requirements
- Meet the definition of a needy/poor person per county ordinance
- LIHEAP eligible
- Net worth of less than $1,500
- Resident of Lyon County
- Not eligible for FIP
- 100% federal poverty level
Additional Requirements
- Program benefits no more than one time every six months
- Applicants must include household information on their application
- No utility payments are authorized during the November 1 to April 1 disconnection moratorium
