Jail

The Lyon County Jail is located within the Law Enforcement Center and is responsible for all inmates brought into the facility by Deputies, State Troopers, Federal Agents, DNR, and DCI Agents. The jail houses inmates from the local area, holds inmates for other agencies on warrants, and also houses federal inmates. The jail is staffed 24 hours a day and may be contacted at 712-472-8356. The jail is designed to hold 26 inmates which are segregated into male/female, federal, work release, general population, holding cell, detox cell, and special status.

Fingerprinting Services

The Sheriff's Office provides fingerprinting to individuals who require this service for a job. Fingerprinting is done by appointment. To set up an appointment, contact the jail division by calling 712-472-8356. All appointments are subject to change depending on the availability of the jail staff.

Fingerprinting Fees:

  • $10 if individual supplies fingerprinting card
  • $15 if fingerprinting card supplied by Sheriff's office

Payments can be made by cash or check.

Charge For Inmate Room & Board

In accordance with 356.7 of the Code of Iowa, it will be the policy of the Lyon County Sheriff's Office to charge to each inmate booked and housed in the Lyon County Jail a room and board fee. This fee will be within constitutional requirements. The following are the charges for room and board:

  • In County
    $25/day
  • Out of County
    $55/day
  • Work Release Fee*
    $35/day (add $10 per day)
    $70/week charge for ankle monitoring
  • Weekend Accommodation Fee
    $120/weekend

Inmates who do not pay the room and board fee will have a lien filed against them.

*Daily work release fees are collected one (1) week in advance. Any monies owed to the Lyon County Sheriff must be paid in full prior to work release being granted. The above listing isn't to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive; Work release is granted by the courts. 

Inmate Work Release

Inmates who are granted work release by the courts need to complete the Work Release form and return them to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office. The form can also be obtained at the Sheriff's Office.

Inmate Canteen

Friends and family may send money by check or money order to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office, which the inmate may use to purchase items off of canteen two times per week.
