On July 13, 2024 at approximately 3:00 AM the Lyon County Sheriff's Office arrested Petrus Paulus Beukes, age 52, from Inwood, IA for operating while intoxicated 1st offense, a serious misdemeanor.

On 07/12/2024, Ixel D. Meza [19] of Rock Rapids was arrested for Violation of Probation at the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office. His bond is $2,000 cash or surety.

On 7/10/2024, Tyler Blaue [39] of Sioux Falls, SD was arrested on his outstanding Lyon County Warrant. Blaue was transported to the Lyon County Jail and is being held on a $1,000 bond.

ACCIDENT

On July 4, 2024, at approximately 11:36 PM the Lyon County Sheriff's Office investigated a one vehicle accident on Larch Ave near 170th St.  Xander John Ditsworth, age 20, from Rock Rapids, IA was operating a 2014 Jeep Patriot southbound on Larch Ave south of 170th St.  Ditsworth went around a road closed barricade thinking it was passable.  The road and bridge approach south of this intersection were completely washed away due to recent flooding.  The 2014 Jeep became airborne over the void, struck the bridge, and fell into the creek below where it came to a rest.  The Jeep became mostly submerged in the creek, but all three occupants were able to escape. 

Ditsworth and his two passengers were transported to Avera Medical Group in Rock Rapids by the Little Rock Ambulance where one patient was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. 

The 2014 Jeep was a complete loss valued at approximately $9,000.  Ditsworth was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device, a simple misdemeanor.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Little Rock Ambulance, the Little Rock Fire Department, the Iowa State Patrol, and Trackside Towing.

On 7/7/2024, Audiel Lopez [22] of Cedar Hill, TN was arrested for driving without a valid DL, and failure to provide proof of financial liability. Lopez was transported to the Lyon County Jail without incident.

On 7/6/2024, Elizabeth Faron [35] of Rock Rapids was arrested on her Lyon County Warrant. She was transported to the Lyon County Jail without incident.

On 7/6/2024, Jose Madrid [41] of Sioux Center was arrested on his outstanding Lyon County Warrant. Madrid was transported to the Lyon County Jail where he is being held on a $5,000 bond.

On July 3rd, 2024, a Lyon County Deputy arrested Mariah Buus, age 23, of rural Little Rock on her active warrants. Warrants were requested for Animal Neglect-Serious bodily injury, an aggravated misdemeanor and Rabbies Vaccine Violation, a simple misdemeanor. Buus did turn herself in and was able to post bond of $2500.

On July 1, 2024, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle accident in the 200 block of South Marshall Street in Rock Rapids.  Nancy Everitt, of Rock Rapids, was southbound on Marshall street in a 2018 Jeep Cherokee.  Everitt moved to the right within her lane to allow a northbound vehicle to pass by.  In doing so, Everitt’s vehicle struck the rear of a diagonally parked and unattended 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 owned by Scott Smith, of Rock Rapids.  Damage to the 2018 Jeep is estimated at $3000.  Damage to the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado is estimated to be $5000. On 6/26/24, Brandon Marrow [26] of Rison, AR was southbound on 182 Hwy driving a 2021 Mack Dumptruck when he attempted to make left turn into a farmplace just north of Inwood. Matthew Blom [22] of Inwood was also southbound on 182 Hwy driving a 2021 Dodge Pickup with a load of cattle. Blom was passing Marrow when Marrow turned, and the two vehicles struck, landing in the east ditch. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $20,000 each. The Lyon County Sheriff's Office was assisted by Inwood Fire and Rescue and TrackSide Services of Alvord. There were no injuries to occupants or livestock.

🚨🚨🚨DRINKING WATER ADVISORY 🚨🚨🚨

The Rock Rapids Municipal Water Department is recommending to use bottled water or an alternative source for drinking or cooking.

The Rock Rapids Water Supply has been affected by flood waters. Due to the potential for bacterial contamination, it is being recommended that bottled water or an alternative source be used for drinking and cooking.

For more information, please contact Jennifer Wippert, General Manager, at 515-809-2567. General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1(800) 426-4791.

When the system resumes normal operations, bacteria samples will be collected. This advisory is a precaution until bacterial sample results are available. You will be notified when the results are available and the advisory is lifted.

The system is working with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to resolve the situation.

ACCIDENT

On 06/21/2024 at approximately 6:00 AM, Alexis Monschein [44] of Rock Rapids was driving a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder through the parking lot of Rosewood Heights when she struck a 1985 Chevy G30 Camper and a 2012 Honda Odessey. Monschein was charged with No Valid Driver’s License and Reckless Driving. The total damage to the Pathfinder was approximately $5,500. Damage for the Camper is estimated at $12,000 and $8,000 for the Odessey.

 

FLOODING

The US National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has informed us that we expect about 2-5 more inches of rain overnight. They expect the river to crest at 25.3 ft between 7-8 am tomorrow in Rock Rapids which is just below the record of 27 ft. We expect heavy rain at around 8pm tonight and severe weather from 5-10 pm. Plans for shelter are being made and will be made available if needed. Sheriff Vander Stoep advises to use caution when traveling, but especially after 8pm. We are expecting numerous roads to go underwater during the overnight, so we are asking everyone to not travel unless necessary. If you know people who are in areas that may be at risk of flooding, please reach out to them and make sure they have an evacuation plan.

TRAIN DERAILMENT

Last night at around 4:30am the Sheriff's Office was notified of a train derailment involving 9 train cars near 220th St and Elmwood Ave, near Alvord. At this time, the derailment is believed to be caused by flood water, and no hazardous materials were spilled or involved. BNSF is working on cleaning up the area.

On 6/18/2024, Michael Bucholz [45] of Sioux Falls, SD was arrested on his outstanding Lyon County Mittimus. Bucholz was booked into the Lyon County Jail.

On 6/10/2024, around 19:00pm the Lyon County Sheriff's Department responded to a two vehicle accident in the 2500 block of Hwy 9. It was determined that Troy Altena, age 47, of Rock Rapids was driving a 2014 Chevy Silverado and trailer was attempting to make a left turn into his residence when Romel Vazquez Lopez, age 25, of Rock Rapids, driving a 2000 BMW 328 CI, rear ended the trailer. No damage was received to the Silverado and estimated $1,000 damage was done to the trailer. Estimated $4,000 worth of disabling damage was done to the BMW. Vasquez Lopez was cited for: Following to Closely, Driving on Expired License, and No Insurance-Accident.

On 6/11/2024, around 17:10pm, the Lyon County Sheriff's Department responded to a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Hwy 9 and Jefferson Ave. It was determined that Jaime Frahm, age 43 of Ellsworth MN was driving a 2003 Ford F-150 and was attempting to make a left hand turn onto Jefferson Ave when Israil Crosby, age 21 of Melvin IA, driving a 2003 GMC Envoy, sideswiped the F-150 on the driver’s side. Both drivers were ok and did not need medical treatment. The F-150 received an estimated $3,000 worth of damage and the Envoy received an estimated $3,000 worth of damage. Crosby was cited for passing at Intersection.

On 6/16/24, a Lyon County Deputy arrested Jessica June Huffey, age 37 of Harrisburg SD. Huffey was taken into custody from the Sheldon Police department and transported to the Lyon County Jail on her two valid warrants. Failure to Appear – Driving while Suspended, Denied, Cancelled, or Revoked and Failure to Appear – No insurance. Huffey was booked and released that night after posting bond.

June 8, 2024, Sharnelle Bush (42) of Sioux Falls, SD, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) after a report from an off duty ISP Trooper smelling an odor of a controlled substance while walking past a campsite at Lake Pahoja. Bush was cited into court after providing a small amount of marijuana to the responding officers.

On 06/11/2024, Kent Vink [32] was arrested for defrauding a drug/alcohol test, a simple misdemeanor. He was escorted to the Lyon County Jail where he is being held on a $300 bond.

On June 4, 2024, at about 12:45p.m., the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch near 100th street and Adams Avenue.  An investigation at the scene determined the driver, Garret Djonne, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was under the influence of alcohol.  He was subsequently arrested and charged with second offense operating while intoxicated, an aggravated misdemeanor.  He was also issued a citation for open container (driver).

On 6/3/2024 Lyon County Deputies responded to a 2-vehicle accident in the 2400 block of Hickory Avenue. Investigation at the scene determined Shawn Jasper of Alton was operating a 2005 Buick Lesabre southbound. Lillian Jorth of Rock Rapids was operating a 2018 Hyundai Elantra also southbound. Jasper attempted to make a U-turn and collided with the Jorth vehicle as a result, causing disabling damage to both vehicles. No injuries were reported and Jasper was cited for unsafe turn. Assisting at the scene were Lyon County Ambulance, Doon Fire & Rescue, Trackside Towing, and the Tow Company.  (SW)

On 6/3/24, Waylon Blacklance [34] of Sioux Falls was arrested on his outstanding Lyon County warrant for violation of probation. Blacklance was transported to the Lyon County Jail, where he is held on a $1,000 bond.

On 5/30/2024, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jacob Ottoson of Sioux Falls, SD. Ottoson was charged with the following:

Possession of a Controlled Substance-Serious Misdemeanor

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia-Simple Misdemeanor

Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor-Simple Misdemeanor

Ottoson was lodged in the Lyon County Jail where he posted an $8,000 bond and was released. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol and Erwin’s Service and Towing.

On 5/19/2024, Lyon County Deputies arrested Kaylee Rose Danduran, age 21, of Larchwood on multiple charges: 1.) Assault Causing Bodily Injury – a Serious Misdemeanor. 2.) General assault – Simple Misdemeanor, 3.) Disorderly Conduct – Simple Misdemeanor, 4.) Public Intoxication – Simple Misdemeanor. 5.) Interference w/ Official Acts – Simple Misdemeanor. The arrest stemmed from a report of a fight happening in the parking lot of the apartments at 1363 Chestnut Ave in Larchwood. Danduran was transported to the Lyon County Jail and held on a $2,200 bond. Danduran was released via signature bond on 5/20/2024.

On 5/22/24, a Lyon County Deputy arrested Paxter Medal, age 34, of Rock Rapids on a Minnesota Warrant. Medal was transported to the Lyon County Jail and has since been extradited by Rock County Minnesota.

On 5/22/24, a Lyon County Deputy arrested Blaz Medal, age 37, of Rock Rapids for Operation while Intoxicated 2nd offense. Medal had driven to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department to inquire about his brother’s arrest. Upon a Deputy talking to Medal, an OWI investigation was completed and Medal was subsequently arrested. Medal admitted to drinking prior to driving, had bloodshot watery eyes, had the odor of alcohol coming from his person and refused all field sobriety tests.

Henry was transported to the Lyon County Jail with a bond of $7,000 cash or surety.

On 5/12/24 Lyon County Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a 2014 GMC Sierra Pickup near 2nd and Bradley in Rock Rapids for equipment violations. The vehicle was driven by Anthony Jackson, age 48, of Rock Rapids. A subsequent investigation led to Jackson being arrested for OWI 1st offense and being lodged at the Lyon County Jail.

On May 6, 2024, at about 11:30am, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office arrested Rose Stafford, age 46, of Sibley, Iowa.  The arrest stems from a report of erratic driving.  A deputy located the vehicle in Rock Rapids and stopped it.  During the traffic stop, illegal drugs and paraphernalia was found.  A subsequent OWI investigation revealed Stafford was also under the influence.  Stafford was arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated 2nd offense, an aggravated misdemeanor, possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia. On 5/7/2024, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office responded to a 2-vehicle accident near the intersection of U.S. Highway 75 and 170th Street, south of Rock Rapids. Investigation at the scene determined Joshua Meinders, of Boyden was operating a 2011 Chevy Malibu, registered to Randy Meinders of Sioux Falls. Meinders was driving northbound when he rear ended a red 2007 Chevy Silverado owned by Barney's Construction and operated by Brian Wynia of Doon. The Wynia vehicle was stopped in traffic in a construction zone when the Meinders vehicle failed to stop and struck the Wynia vehicle in the rear. Meinders was cited for Failure to Stop an Assured Clear Distance. No injuries were reported. Assisting at the scene was Lyon County Ambulance, Rock Rapids Fire Department, Trackside Towing, and The Tow Co.

On 5/4/2024, The Lyon County Sheriff's Office received a report of on abuse situation at the Avera Hospital in Rock Rapids. Upon investigation, Paula Harms of George, was arrested for Dependent Adult Abuse and OWI first offense. (SW)

May 2, 2024, at 7:00 AM, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one vehicle accident near the intersection of Beech Avenue and 180th Street. Tyler J. Johnson (23) of Madison, SD was operating a 2019 Kia Optima East bound and struck a deer that entered the roadway. Approximately $4000 dollars in damage was estimated to the vehicle. No injuries were reported.

On 5/2/2024, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office arrested Christian Lile, 18, of Steen, MN, on an arrest warrant from Cerro Gordo County, IA. The warrant was for failure to appear on the original charge of Theft 5th Degree. Lile was transported to the Lyon County Jail where he posted a $300 cash bond and was released with a court date.

On 4/28/2024, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office arrested Lennon Slade, of Rock Rapids, for domestic abuse assault, an aggravated misdemeanor. Slade was transported to the Lyon County Jail.

On 4/27/2024, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office arrested Kaylee Dandurand, of Larchwood, on a Lyon County warrant for failure to appear. Dandurand was transported to the Lyon County Jail.

On 4/24/24, shortly after 7:00pm the Lyon County Sheriff's Office took a report of a speeding motorist along Geiser Street in the city limits of Larchwood. Upon investigation, Jeremy Jay Underberg, age 46 of Larchwood, was arrested and charged with Operation while Intoxicated 2nd Offense, a aggravated misdemeanor. Underberg was transported to the Lyon County Jail and held on a $2,000 bond. (sw)

On 4/26/2024, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office arrested Harold Hasche of Rock Rapids for Driving While Barred, an aggravated misdemeanor, and Driving While Suspended, a simple misdemeanor. Hasche was transported to the Lyon County Jail and released after posting bond.

On 4/26/2024, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office arrested Danielle Slaughter of Sioux Falls, SD, on an arrest warrant from Polk County, IA. The warrant was for Domestic Abuse Assault-Strangulation. Slaughter was transported to the Lyon County Jail before being turned over to Polk County.

On Saturday April 20, 2024, at approximately 11:07 AM the Lyon County Sheriff's Office received a call of a domestic disturbance at a residence in Larchwood, IA.  As a result Tanner Michael Kamm, age 27, and Alexys Jennifer Flann, age 28, both from Larchwood were charged with the following:

Ms. Flann: Child Endangerment, a class D Felony; possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.

Mr. Kamm: Child Endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor; possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.

On 4/16/24, around 01:30am, Lyon County Deputies responded to a report of domestic disturbance in the 600 block of S 3rd Ave in Rock Rapids. Upon Investigation, Seth Joseph Roos, age 34, of Rock Rapids was arrested and charged with Domestic Abuse Causing Bodily Injury 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor. Roos was then transported to the Lyon County Jail and booked. Roos is being held on a $1,000 bond.

On April 16th, 2024, a Lyon County Deputy arrested Derek Wayne Vining, age 31, of Brandon on his active warrant for Failure to Appear. Vining was transported from the Minnehaha County Jail to the Lyon County Jail where he sit with a $5,000 bond. (CB)

Monday, April 15, 2024, at 06:16 am., the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office investigated a one vehicle accident near the intersection of Beech Avenue and 180th Street. Samuel R. Mayasich, age 31, of Sioux Falls, SD was operating a 2023 BMW eastbound on 180th Street and struck a deer that entered the roadway. Damage caused to the vehicle was estimated at $6000.00 dollars damage. No injuries were reported.

On April 13, 2024 Lyon County Deputies arrested Michael Smoot of Sioux Falls for Supplying Alcohol to Person Under Legal Age, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Prohibited Destructive Acts, Parks and Public Lands- Closing Time Exceeded, Failure to provide Proof of Financial Liability, and Failure to Display Registration Plate. Smoot was cited to appear in court and released.

 

On April 12, 2024 Lyon County Deputies arrested Mason Sanborn of Sioux Falls for Possession of Controlled Substance- Marijuana 1st Offense, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Alcohol by Person Under 21 1st offense, and Parks and Public Lands. Sanborn was housed in the Lyon County Jail.

 

On April 12, 2024 Lyon County Deputies arrested Kaeden Jacobson of Sioux Falls for Possession of Controlled Substance- Marijuana 1st offense, Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Offense, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of alcohol by person under 21 1st Offense, and Parks and Public Lands- Closing Time Exceeded. Jacobson was housed in the Lyon County Jail.

On April 9, 2024, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office arrested Nathan Palaschak on active warrants from the state of Minnesota. The Lyon County Sheriff's Office charged Palaschak with Fugitive of Justice, and he was lodged in the Lyon County Jail.

On 4/8/2024, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office arrested Steven Heinemann, 36, of Inwood, for Driving While Revoked-serious misdemeanor, and 2 different counts of Driving While Suspended-simple misdemeanors. Additionally, Leslie Newman, 39, of Inwood, was arrested on a Sioux County warrant for Violation of Probation. Both Heinemann and Newman were transported to the Lyon County Jail.

On Saturday April 6, 2024 at approximately 3:48 AM a Deputy came upon a man walking on Highway 9 near the Grand Falls Casino and Resort.  The Deputy checked on the man's wellbeing who was lost.  The man was identified as David Yak, age 21, from Kansas City, MO and was found to be in possession of a THC vape.  Mr. Yak was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor. On April 1, 2024, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one vehicle roll over at the intersection of 120th Street and Marsh Avenue North of Little Rock. William A. Murray (49) of Jackson, MN was operating a tractor/trailer owned by New Fashion Pork and was attempting to make a right turn at the intersection.  While making a wide turn, the front wheel of the semi got to close to the edge and was sucked into the ditch causing both units to overturn in the ditch. Murray was transported to Sibley hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Damage to both units is unknown at this time. Assisting the sheriff’s office was Little Rock Fire and Rescue And Iowa DNR.  (LS)

It was discovered that Carlton Jr. had an active warrant through the State of Florida and was charged with Fugitive of Justice.  He was lodged in the Lyon County Jail.

On 4/1/24, multiple Lyon County Deputies responded to a two vehicle rollover accident at the intersection of 230th and Marsh Ave with unknown injuries. Upon investigation, it was determined that Maximus Jones, age 20, of Lake Park was driving his 2008 Chevrolet Silverado Southbound on Marsh Ave and failed to stop at the stop sign, which resulted with Katrina Riemersma, age 45 of Ashton, driving a 2019 Chevrolet Trax while traveling Eastbound on 230th attempted to avoid the Silverado before striking the passenger side. The Silverado rolled over and ended up on its passenger side and the Trax ended in the SE Field. In total, 3 occupants were taken to Sanford Sheldon for medical treatment via Lyon County Ambulance and George Ambulance. Jones is cited for Failure to Obey Stop Sign and Failure to wear Seat Belt. Both vehicles appeared to received totaling damage. Assisting at the scene was George Fire, George EMS, Lyon County Ambulance and The Tow Co. (TB)

On March 30, 2024 the Lyon County Sheriff's Office responded to a two-vehicle accident in the 1200 block of 180th St. Investigation at the scene determined that Jaydrien Albers of Sheldon was operating her 2018 grey impala going west bound on 160th St. Mathias Knoblock of Rock Rapids was operating his 2012 ford f350 making a left had turn out of a private drive way to head east on 180th St. The two vehicles both made evasive action and made head on collision. Knoblock was charged with failure to yield upon entering through highway. Assisting at the scene was the Lyon County Ambulance, Lester Rescue, Lester Fire Department, and Trackside Towing. (SW)

On 3/25/2024,  the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 2-vehicle, hit and run accident, near the intersection of U.S. Highway 75 and County Road A52, outside of Doon. Investigation at the scene determined Jennifer Van Otterloo of Sanborn was operating her 2014 Chevrolet Traverse southbound on U.S. 75. Bagner Cruz Sanchez, of Maurice, was operating a 2014 Chevrolet Captiva owned by Francisco Zavala, also southbound on U.S. Highway 75. Cruz Sanchez’s vehicle rear-ended Van Otterloo’s vehicle. Cruz Sanchez then left the scene. Cruz Sanchez was located a short time later. Cruz Sanchez was charged as follows:

On March 31, 2024 Deputies arrested Jorge Arturo Padilla Tavares on two active Lyon County Warrants both for Failure to Appear. Padilla Tavares also received two new charges for operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license, and not having an ignition interlock while operating a motor vehicle. He was transported to the Lyon County Jail where he was then released on bond. (SW)

On March 30, 2024, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office responded to a two-vehicle accident in the 2400 block of 180th St. Investigation at the scene determined that Jaydrien Albers of Sheldon was operating her 2018 Chevy Impala going west bound on 180th St. Mathias Knoblock of Rock Rapids was operating a 2012 Ford F350 belonging to JRT Farms making a left hand turn out of a private driveway onto 180th St. The two vehicles both made evasive action and collided in the east bound lane. Knoblock was charged with Failure to Yield Upon Entering Through Highway. Assisting at the scene was the Lyon County Ambulance, Lester Rescue, Lester Fire Department, and Trackside Towing.

On 3/23/24, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office was requested for assistance at the Grand Falls Casino and Resort with an individual who had dropped a suspected illegal substance near the golf pro shop. Upon investigation, a Lyon County Deputy arrested Randy E Estrada, age 36, of Sioux Falls, SD for Possession of Controlled Substance – Cocaine 1st offense, a serious misdemeanor, and Possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor. Estrada was transported back to the Lyon County Jail where he was booked and released on a $1,300 bond.

On Sunday, March 24, 2023, at approximately 10:45 AM the Lyon County Sheriff's Office investigated a single vehicle accident on Highway 75 near 170th St.  Joeb Dean Boogerd, age 21, from Hull, IA was southbound in a 2007 Dodge Ram pickup when he lost control due to slush and ice on the roadway.  The Ram entered the east ditch, overturned, and came to a rest on its top.  The Ram was a total loss and Boogerd was cited for failure to maintain control, a simple misdemeanor.

On 2/15/2024, the Lyon County Sheriff’s office received a report of a suspicious vehicle near the intersection of 240th St. and Dove Ave. Upon investigation, Rick Keough, of Rock Valley, was arrested on 1 count of operating while Intoxicated First Offense, Possession of Controlled Substance First Offense, and two counts of Driving while License Revoked. Keough was transported to the Lyon County Jail.

On 2/14/24, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office investigated a report of a hit and run incident. The reporting party stated that another vehicle had sideswiped them in the 1900 block of Highway 75 around 19:40 pm. Upon investigation, it was determined that Harold Hasche, age 86, of Rock Rapids, failed to stop after hitting another vehicle and was driving while barred. Hasche was arrested and booked into the Lyon County Jail where he has since been released on a $2,000 bond. Hasche was also issued a citation for Hit and Run- Property Damage Only.

On February 4, 2024, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office arrested Ixel Meza, age 20, of Sioux Falls, SD.  The arrest stems from a report of several vehicles that had been entered in the Grand Falls Casino parking lot.  The vehicles had various items taken stolen from inside of them.  After the investigation, Meza was transported to the Lyon County Jail and charged with three counts of third-degree burglary of a motor vehicle, an aggravated misdemeanor.  (SW)

On January 30, 2024 at approximately 9:16 PM the Lyon County Sheriff's Office investigated a two-vehicle accident in George, IA.  Autumn Rylee Voss, age 18, from Little Rock, IA was operating a 2004 Pontiac Vibe westbound on 1st Ave N when she struck a legally parked 2022 Chevrolet owned by Bank Plus.  The Pontiac Vibe was a total loss and the Chevrolet received approximately $2,000 in damages. On January 30, 2024 at approximately 11:38 PM the Lyon County Sheriff's Office investigated a one vehicle accident in Larchwood, IA.  Lina Marie Romero, age 32, from Larchwood, IA was operating her 2017 Ford Fusion northbound on Broadway St when she struck cement landscaping owned by the City of Larchwood.  The 2017 Ford Fusion was a complete loss and the landscaping received approximately $2,000 in damages.  This accident is still under investigation.  (SW)

Additionally, Fodness was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance-3rd Offense, a Class D Felony, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor. The arrest stems from a traffic stop in the 1800 block of 230th Street near Inwood.
