Lake Pahoja

Lake Pahoja Recreation Area is a 300 acre highly developed multi-use recreation area.  It offers a wide variety of activities for all seasons.

A few of the features at Lake Pahoja include:  6 open picnic shelters with modern restroom facilities and drinking water available, three playgrounds, two volleyball courts, a basketball court, and horseshoe pits.  Two enclosed lodges are also available - each containing four to six picnic tables, a fireplace, and outdoor pedestal grills.

Updated Facilities

All of the facilities have been made handicapped accessible along with the 1 1/3 mile asphalt hiking/biking trail along the north shore.  A 3 2/3 mile hiking trail encircles the lake for the nature and exercise enthusiasts.


Lake Pahoja Recreation Area is open year-round and offers a variety of recreation activities such as ice fishing, hunting, biking, bird watching, canoeing, plus a whole lot more.


At the northeast end of the lake there is a 350' x 100' swimming beach and an adjoining comfort station for those interested in a little sun and fun!

Rental Cabins

The Lyon County Conservation Board has six log-style cabins.  These rustic get-a-ways were designed to provide a camping experience in which you do not need to pull a unit or pitch a tent.  The cabins are one room with a 10' x 18' deck, and are designed to be accessible by persons with disabilities.   There is one camping pad available for rent with each cabin.

Cabins have two sets of bunk beds.  Each cabin includes electricity, sink   with hot and cold running water, microwave, hot plate, refrigerator, table, broom and mop.  Cabin renters provide all personal items such as linens, blankets, sleeping bags, pillows, cooking and eating utensils, etc.  A picnic table and fire ring with grill are provided for each cabin.  These cabins have heat and air conditioning.  Water into the cabins is shut off in cold winter months of the year.


The Lyon County Conservation Board also has two full-amenity cabins.   The cabins have two bedrooms, each with a queen size bed, a loft with four queen-size beds, a great room with TV/DVD and gas fireplace, a full bath and full kitchen and have 10x 24 upper and lower decks.

Each cabin includes electricity, sink with hot and cold running water, microwave, stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, pots and pans, dishes, silverware, table, heat & air conditioning, and limited cleaning supplies.  Cabin renters provide all personal items such as linens, blankets, sleeping bags, pillows, towels, etc.  A picnic table and fire ring with grill are provided for each cabin.   These cabins are available for rent year round.

Fishing & Boating

A concrete boat ramp and wooden dock are located on the north side of the lake.  Boating is allowed on Lake Pahoja with electric trolling motors.


Anglers can try their luck fishing for Largemouth Bass, Crappie, Channel Catfish, Perch, Bullheads, and Bluegills.  A valid Iowa fishing license is required.  The Lyon County Conservation Board is dedicated to maintaining the fishing quality of the lake and has established many artificial fish habitat structures.


A fish cleaning station is also available to anglers on the north side of the park.

Park Rules


No live bait is allowed in Lake Pahoja.



Motorized vehicles restricted to roadways and designated parking areas.  Parking is prohibited on the dam.  Park roads are public roads and all Iowa laws pertain.


Speed Limit

15 miles per hour on roadways.  5 miles per hour in camping areas



One vehicle and one camping unit allowed per site.  Registration is required within one hour of site occupancy.  Campers must register or vacate by noon.


Picnics & Fires

Please use facilities provided and fire rings or grills.



Unsupervised beach - no lifeguards employed.  Glass containers are not permitted on the beach and beverage containers are note permitted in the water.  Swimming is permitted only within the boundary ropes.



Keep on a leash at all times.  Not permitted on the beach.



Shall be discarded in containers provided within the park area.



Permitted only in areas open for public hunting.  Steel shots required.  Gun must remain unloaded outside of hunting zone.
